Casa De Party: Decorating for Halloween

With a new baby, we aren’t planning to go all out for Halloween this year. When I was a kid, I used to try to come up with elaborate ideas for making our front porch spooky. I’d construct scarecrows, hang makeshift ghosts, and create some kind of spooky scene next to our front door. I can’t wait until Jamie is old for us to decorate the porch as a family. Until then, we want our porch to feel festive and fun, without having to put in a lot of work (because we’re kind of busy taking care of a tiny person right now).

I’ve been wanting to share this set of glider chairs that my dad fixed up for me. You should see a before picture! The wood was rotted and the metal was forest green. Now they look fresh and clean and definitely fit with the vintage vibe I have going on. It’s hard to make this sunny yellow set look scary so I added a few pumpkins, placed one of my plants in a plastic cauldron, and added a couple of Halloween plant stakes.

I also added some cling-on bat stickers in the windows, plus a vintage style trick-or-treat sign (that I found in the Dollar Spot area at Target).

The wreath was originally just a plain black wreath so I dressed it up with some shiny ornaments that I purchased from my local craft store. You know I had to fit an owl in somewhere!

One of my favorite new decorations is the Half Round Pumpkin Doormat I received from Personal Creations. It’s such a simple and inexpensive way to dress up our porch – but I also love that we were able to personalize it with our last name. Super cute!

Besides the front porch, the one place I love to decorate for holidays is our fireplace mantle. I decorated with my collection of owl candle holders, plus a few Halloween candle holders that I’ve collected, and some pretty white and gold pumpkins (also found in the Dollar Spot area at Target). The banner was purchased several years ago but I still love it.

I think we’re all set as far as decorations for the year but I’m still trying to come up with something we can do to celebrate. Maybe stay home and watch spooky movies? Hand out candy until the little one gets tired? What would you do if you had a 2 1/2 month old to entertain on Halloween?
